Learning in Mrs. Lymon’s Fifth Grade Class

Bible – Through Route 66 we will cover all 66 books of the Bible getting an overview of the history behind each book, the main idea, and how all of the Bible works together to tell the story of salvation.

Reading – We will do several novel studies through the year to explore different genres and authors.

Math –Math Grade 5 (Purposeful Design) builds on math skills that have been taught in previous years including place value, addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, fractions, and geometry.

Spelling – Students will be given a spelling rule or concept and then will brainstorm words that fit. Each student will choose their list based on their ability level.

Writing –English 5 (BJU Press) allows students to alternate between learning grammar concepts and using the writing process to create different types of written works.

Social Studies – Heritage Studies (BJU Press) goes through the history of the United States beginning with the Native Americans. The textbook will be supplemented with hands-on learning activities and research projects through the year.Science – Science 5 (BJU Press) incorporates textbook learning with hands on labs in a variety of science areas like earth science, biology, geology, and more. It will be supplemented with an online program called Mystery Science, and a monthly magazine from Scholastic called SuperSTEM.
